Finally, someone on InternetTabletTalk released a package to easily install Debian on Maemo!
Why would you want to have Debian running on your N800/N810? Because it gives you access to countless applications and especially to OpenOffice, Gimp, Abiword and Firefox 3!
All you’ll need is an external memory card (1.3GB free required) and a little patience (the download takes a while). Follow these simple steps:
- Download and install “easy-deb-chroot“
- Launch “Debian Image Installer” from your “Extras” menu (and be patient)
- Enjoy! (additional info & tricks)
Right after the install, you’ll have OpenOffice, Firefox3, Abiword and IceWM waiting for you in your “Extras” menu. To install more applications, launch “Synaptic Package Manager” then type and search for more (recommended: Gimp, Gedit, Kazehakase).
Add “Personal Menu” to the party and you’ll be able to add/modify/organize your apps in a dedicated menu.
