There are two things you should not do in Thailand: insult the King in any way, and take/deal drug(s).

Recently, a Swiss man has been accused of insulting Thailand’s monarchy by spray-painting over several portraits of the revered king and faces a maximum 75-year prison sentence.

Oliver Rudolf Jufer, 57, was caught by surveillance cameras on Dec. 5 spray-painting black paint over several portraits of King Bhumibol Adulyadej in the Northern city of Chiang Mai. He faces a penalty of between three and 15 years in prison for each one.

Thai people cannot accept this act of insulting the king.

Another case is the one of Panrit “Gor” Daoruang which at the age of 20 was arrested by the police because he had some “yaa baa” drug in his possession. He has been in Klong Dan Prison since, and has been sentenced to 6 years there. Here is a page dedicated to him:

Here is a message you can read on his web page, dedicated to foreigners:

“Message for foreigners. Please don’t even consider taking or dealing in drugs while in Thailand. Penalties are harsh even for minor drugs. You could easily get life or a death sentence. People serving long sentences are sent to the infamous Bang Kwang Prison which is far harsher than this one. You have been warned! Don’t join the thousands of foreigners already in Thai prisons.”

You have been warned!
